The Slate of the Union

Hello Blogbrethren,

Happy Saturday July 7th, 2012 to you!  Jesse here, and tonight I'm writing about what I believe is the most intriguing topic in the world -- us  :)

Here's the deal.  There are seven billion of us throughout the world.  Perhaps this means that if you and me travel around, we may find a score of people who look and act exactly like us.  As the population booms, we run the risk of no longer being special and unique anymore -- just extra sheep in a herd.  We also place greater burdens on our planet, with natural resources that don't keep up.  Mother Nature is already angry with us, so what happens when her wrath comes out in full fury?
So we need to control our population.  Our main job on this planet is to focus on ourselves and how we contribute to the world.  When deciding to have a child, a parent should consider how this child will contribute to the world once it's born.  There must be a functional reason for all the important things that we do.  Sure, there is a great degree of fun and intrigue involved, but it must be coupled with functionality.

We learned in school that America is the land of the free.  It is a place where consistent hard work is rewarded with the choice to live life the way you see fit.  However, in some places, like the bulk of New Jersey, there is no land left.  It's becoming a truly crumby place to live.  The last open lot with a few trees on it says "Coming Soon - Corporate Center."

As the population continues to increase, where will the people go?  Will we spread out covering every inch of the planet, like ants in an anthill?  Will that be an efficient way of living?  I'll tell you this: it scares the shit out of an American, someone who grows up in a country setting where the solemn sounds of nature are one of the true rewards of life.

It's time to focus on quality over quantity, not just in terms of population growth, but in business practices as well.  Constructing building after building after building is not the answer.  Increasing sales growth and creating economies of scale are not the answer.  If I see one more unnecessary over saturated franchise store in a new strip mall, stripping the land, I may vomit.  We must focus on innovation, feeling good about our services and products not because we have the most customers, but because we have a great offering, and the customers we have, whether few or many, feel special and unique because they have access to a valuable commodity.

So good luck with your endeavors!  Embrace your cultural identities and values.  Do not be afraid to change the pace of your life -- take a step back, reconnect with yourself as a person, and then contribute your offering to those you choose.  Do your own thing and show us what you got!!

And have a wonderful weekend...
-J
