hello readers,
We at succinct news are happy you are with us today. School may have started for you or you may be making plans for one last summer concert on the labor day weekend! Today's link is a story about a band.. Seether. Read all about it. They will be at Meadowbrook on Sept. 3 and it looks like their cause is hitting a chord of relevancy in america! Teen suicide prevention! Read how the bands are uniting for the "cause" of teen suicide and emotional disorders associated with mental illness. We need more bands to support education and prevention. This is a very sad comment about the youth of today and what they suffer in silence. Bringing awareness to this very important issue and especially to the youth of america is needed! We live in a violent society and one that is taking a toll on america's heart and soul. It is taking a "hit" on our teen population. As a teen, this writer, had the benefit of teen ministries under Billy Graham's crusades and many churches, including one i was associated with in my hometown of fairfield ct. , provided many benefits for me and teens like me from the boomer era. The church was a safe place where we could meet , have social, even dancing and other teen activities without the influences of addiction pressures. Alcohol, drugs, all the rest, were never part of the "zone" for teens. Today it is another story..entirely. Teens are under seige with so many adult issues.. with adult addictions when they havent even had a childhood or experienced a carefree day in their lives. Todays teens are victims. Victims of a host of dysfunction that comes from many sources. As i stated, violence being number one, poverty due to loss of jobs and job growth, families without guidance or fit fathers and i see this teen problem as growing based on the economic adversity families are facing today with economic crisis topping the list. We must address this problem with unity and sensitivity. Teens need guidance not more adult issues dumped on them. They need our protection and investments of time, love and care. Jobs used to be plentiful for teens. There were no shortage of jobs for teens during my boomer years and i feel it is an essential part of a teen's life to develop confidence, security, identity and financial independence. i can't imagine what it would be like today, to be a teen during this dark economic recession and depression. How can a teen escape the darkness with no "job" or "financial" independence. employment builds skill sets and gives teen "spirit". Employment gives feelings of teamwork and worth and control over one's own destiny. As millions of families have been on food stamps, one of Obama's curses, and have experienced the worst four years with the highest unemployment rates, we must turn our hearts and minds to the "teen" population. They (teenagers) are victims twice if someone, a single mom or even both parents have suffered job loss and loss of financial security. One part-time job gave me hope as my own father was diagnosed with terminal kidney disease. It was the only way i could fight back. it provided opportunity for me to be with friends from high school and work as a team. It provided opportunities for me to "help" and "support" myself as much as take financial burdens off my parents who were dealing with the worst case scenario. My part-time income was needed and served a valuable purpose. My mother did not work and I found that my part time employment was necessary for my mental health in having some "control" as chaos and uncertainty as fear now replaced long term financial security. It is not unlike today..where teens must have a role to "play" and must have "control". Whether it is a financial crisis due to unemployment of a parent or the illness of a parent, a teen must have some way to "control" some of the issues of their own life. I hope todays blog will encourage many of you in solid and secure positions to support the teens in your community.
Teens are victims like the rest of us.. in an uncertain economy with an uncertain future. The best we can do is Vote for leadership that will matter and will matter to our young teen population.
I support Seether and all bands that are bringing teens together to keep focus on a serious issue of teen suicide and in all cases, prevention is the answer! Get involved, participate and keep our teens safe with policies and programs that give guidance with "role models". Keep the faith!! enjoy a summer concert and always be sensitive to your teens!
This is detective sparks.. wishing everyone a happy Labor day weekend..
Please enjoy our homeschool sponsors today.
until tomorrow.. Please be safe and practice safe driving habits. leave the cell phone behind when behind the wheel.. Your focus comes first!
