Hello readers, welcome to succinct news. Today we have a juicy follow up on the business start up kit from yesterday's blog. Today's link will transport you to USA today and writer Rhonda Abrams,
ceo/planning shop and publisher of many books, the most recent "entrepreneurship: a real world approach". She addresses the Adrenaline addiction problem with some business managers and ceo's with a very on point discovery and 5 steps to control those "adrenaline urges". I must add that I think its our natural instinct of "flight or fight", engrained in us, possibly from childhood and the many challenges we may have faced with regard to a number of real life drama's where a child may be overwhelmed or defenseless to control situations or outcomes. Adrenaline addiction may refer to certain personalities that just thrive on risk taking or high powered challenges and many of them based on history and learning curve. There's no question there are adrenaline junkies out there..and some of them can be "micromanaging" a workforce with some very "toxic energy" if the adrenaline is not channeled property. Perhaps an adrenaline addict needs physical challenge as much as cerebral challenge? i know personally, i have felt this "adrenaline" pulsing through my body but usually it is a result of having been the victim of violence and unexpected threats that came from practically an "ambush" situation where there were no positive outcomes. If i sense danger, andrenaline starts to build as with the "flight or fight" instincts we all have developed  since "man" was "cave man" and woman evolved in dangerous , risky situations as well. There are times in emergencies. as we all have experienced and read about..where someone will be i an car accident or similar emergency event and we see a man or woman trapped in a burning car or pinned under a car and someone, will have adrenaline giving them super power strength to lift or roll a car in seconds, saving a person who is trapped! This has happened even where "children" have shown unimaginable strength and heroic efforts with the rescue of another person. The adrenaline is definitely a "kryptonite" of sorts that enable us to cope, manage threat or risk and to express "fight or flight" based on any attack to our life or the lives of others. 911 would be a great example where many heros emerged while saving lives in a literal inferno! the first responders and firefighters are almost always producing excessive adrenaline in times of emergency or challenge. They have shown super human strength and powers in many physical challenges. Adrenaline may be at work in many of our sports as fitness and physical strength is needed to excell and as atheletes build super human feats as modeled in the olympics where strength and muscle is tested beyond endurance and mind over matter may kick in to the adrenaline reserves. Needless to say many of us have this need for "adrenaline" rush and many of us are "addicts". Does adrenaline addiction rely on a gene? a dna disposition? it is created by enviormental or external assaults as in my case, where physical threat is made to a persons body or family members , such as the case with hollocaust victims where the SS men would come and take their children by force and without warning or notice??  a sense of  "defenselessness or powerless" may trigger it?? It is part of of the "control freak" personality where there is abundant energy in the manager that is natural energy but creates more drama than productivity?  a need for "speed" you can say is also an adrenaline feature. These adrenaline addicts seek high challenge and almost impossible conditions to match the energy and natural activity level they seek! when things go well they get too bored and in some cases recreate the "drama" for the "adrenaline" rush. We have all experienced those times that cause us to take our adrenaline to a higher level. It is our chemistry advantage for "life preservation" and quite natural for our bodies defense mechanism system. Without it, we would perish. Literally, adrenaline keeps us alive!!  so here's how Ms. Abrams offers adrenaline addicts some self-help. She gives 5 very practical steps to being an effective manager and for adrenaline addicts self-control is very important to creative productivity and not dramas!  Adrenaline addicts could be like Type A personalities and they can be overbearing and micro managers who are very talented and successful but lack qualities that keep them balanced in the workplace or in their personal lives. Leaders all have excess energy and adrenaline. It is part of the leadership quality that is able to manage others, motivate others around a vision or cause or company mission. We need the high energy leaders who most likely have adrenaline flowing more than  those with just the "energy drink". Adrenaline addicts, as Rhonda reveals, can channel that addiction into healthy and positive results and with balance learn to live with the "adrenaline".  The first in the list of five points Rhonda makes are the following:
1)accept the fact of adrenaline addiction positively.Challenges motivate the adrenaline addict. structure business to undertake positive new tasks while performing routine tasks. i would say blend and balance the tasks. Set higher goals especially sales objective goals. Get energized and get the adrenaline pumped!
2) the adrenaline addiction manager needs toprioritize and set deadlines even when external deadlines are non-existent. Adrenaline addicts need to work towards many challenges and have time deadlines enforced for results.
3)redefine boredom is necessary. Is business productivity measured by phones ringing, emergencies and long to do lists? (you could argue that positive business creation is not dependent on crisis or energy that is drained for counter-productive business enviorment.). Lets just say activity relates to business and sales and all the rest is "drama" that could even "destroy" a business just as these invasions of constant emergency could destroy a family or families health, so the example holds true for small business. if there are constant legal threats, adverse economy, physical threats or terror, well you see how function and productivity would be at risk! The workplace just as the classroom should be spared excess negative drama though personally im a big fan of positive drama and not life-threatening emergency. Boredom prevention is about learning more and education always provides avenues for abudant energy and adrenaline where it can also take your business to a new level of performance and increased wealth! i would say education is the prevention everyone needs!! Boredom should never be taken lightly. It means your brain is not being challenged but under utilized!! that is very bad for productivity in a person, manager , team or family! new goals should always replace old ones and an ongoing education and learning curve is needed for the training and development of all employees. This would apply to students and children in homeschooling as much as to personnel in a workforce. Learning is the answer in all cases of "boredom" no matter where or with whom especially where challenges and goals are the desired curriculum of higher functioning.
4) Rhonda suggests that adrenaline addicts add risk to their lives!  Risks that are "non-business" but personal business and lifestyle,  meaning doing some simple activities, sports or other non-business related activities  such as being involved in theater , public speaking , joining organizations, serving on boards and also seeking challenges in your personal life vs business .
5) finally, Rhonda advises get a happy life! Don't spend your life putting out business fires.. Some of those may be actually started by adrenaline addicts "need for extreme emergency". An AA needs to focus on other areas of their life. Adrenaline is great for small business owners who need to know being hungry often means the addict will go the extra mile to devise a better product or service . Many successful sales people are driven by the adrenaline (hunger) motivation though personally i would argue that proper fuel in ones diet is needed to lead, make good business decisions and to have balance with the adrenaline. The "hunger" drive though is definitely what some need for motivation and it has produced many "legends" in business who swear by the fact that need and necessity drive innovation and good business discipline. Learning to chill out is another important factor to counter the negative forces caused by adrenaline addiction that sometimes can "take over". While adrenaline is a natural power we must temper our aggressive goals with a life balance and that is what i would encourage among our readers. excesses in all forms.. are toxic so when we can manage them with intelligence we can acheive limitless status. The psychology of adrenaline is survival!! It is the most basic and natural chemistry out there. We must channel this energy and use it for good. Let's face it we all love superman for the kyrptonite and for fighting crime. Did i mention the adrenaline that comes from our soldiers who are in combat and fight for our freedoms? There is tons of adrenaline on the battlefields at war as we can imagine especially on the front lines.  we all have need for challenge and defeating our competitors whether in business or in life, but we must be composed and own our senses and not let them become "self-destruct". It's all about the masterful control element when battling adrenaline addiction. Make your abundance work for you in good ways!! There can be a happy life and happy ending!
