Hello readers and lovers of pow!! or fresh pow! you gotta love the lingo of the skiers.. only if you have skied in "fresh powder" would you even have a clue what the experts know..Skiing brings back such memories of great times with high schools buddies and later in college with a "course" in skiing. It doesn't get better than that for midnite on the slopes..It's a sport this writer loves ,well enough of my reminescing. The fact of skiing is that you must be all lean and no fat! Trust me, those long lines at the lift an certain j-bars and t-bars.. were quite exhausting. More so than the longest downhill run at Mt. Snowe or Stratton mt. The ski part was always the easiest for me.. it was just the minus zero weather with windchill that posed the most problem. Plenty of hot chocolate would rescue me as i made many stops in the lounge by the huge fireplace hearth.. The equipment..well it wasn't that advanced or sophisticated in the 60's or 70's. i just got my ski mag and buyers guide for 2013! It's amazing how the tech has evolved in the sport. The ski boots for instance, have gone viral.. I mean they are so well designed and my personal favorite on the cover of the mag.. Fischer was a well-known brand that i happened to have used as well as the fischer skis. The sport has really reached a peak in terms of the womans sport of skiing and I think one name is associated with the phenomenal interest in the sport. One woman , one courageous attitude and one of the best atheletes out there.. is Lindsey Vonn! It comes as no surprise that LV is rocking the records and this succinct news article today is dedicated to Lindsey as a tribute for all she is doing for the sport! She was the 2010 down hill gold medalist in the vancouver games and what's next for Lindsey! What keeps her motivated after endless wins!! Well, it turns out that LV is kickin it up a notch with a request to go head to head with the men skiers in the world cup on Nov. 21. Lindsey has stated that competition with the men's ski team would boost the image of the women on the world cup tour!! Lindsey by the way dominated the past season to secure her standing as number 1 . Much of her training is done with men and she claims to have beaten members of the canadian national team during practice. Lindsey maintains that her intentions are purist for the sport and her goals and challenges must be elevated since she has no equal in the womans team. It is for the sake of the sport that she seeks the highest challenge and wants to prove that woman can evolve to the level of mens skiing. Let's face it.. LV is rockin the woman's world cup events and she thrives on the adrenaline to compete with the men. She is determined to bring equality to the sport and you know this writer is totally supportive of her competitive nature! Vonn's request now depends upon approval of skiing chiefs who will take on the issue at the official meeting of the international ski federation ,ISF, in 2 weeks. Its necessary to examine the rules to see if there is a way to do this and what would support the "reason". Lv has already answered that with her "STATS". .. I mean what's a girl to do when she has been on top and has no real competition on the womans ski team.?? She wants to be matched with the men's ski team? i see no problem with her wanting to bring her game to the next level.. Who would hold this dynamic and exciting skier back..?? She is passionate for her sport and i agree , a competition with the mens team would really boost the woman's world cup event and tour!! LV needs more challenge obviously..and why not give her a chance to go against the men's team. ? The official rule book doesnt have specific rules on gender. ISF committee members would need to decide if the race would benefit the sport. If Lv could train at Lake Louise and compete with men in Nov. She would have the advantage over her rivals the following week during he woman's races on the same course! Von has won 10 earlier events at lake Louise. She won 3 out of 3 events the last time the woman's circut visited the venue in 2011. Lv has mentioned that Lake Louise is one of her favorite courses!!
I say the rule book needs updating..because Lindsey Vonn is the "game changer"!! I hope the ISF decides to approve her request because Lindsey knows her game is on.. and knows what she needs to eclipse all of the records and challenges she has set for herself. I say.."let Lindsey be Lindsey" and honor her request because she defines the "sport" for the women's world tour and deserves her shot at the ultimate contest!! i've been a fan of LV for a number of years now..watching her star rising on the slopes is exciting!! She has made the woman's sport of skiing with her gold medals and gracious media events simultaneously. In my opinon, the sport owes Lindsey and owes her an opportunity to compete against men or women skiers. If she can focus on the slopes.. and not on the men..i say.. "don't limit" the power of LV.. and congrats with all that LV.. A toast to the queen of the womans's and possibly "mens" world cup tour!! Gender should not be a factor, when we are talking about the top woman's skier and world cup champion.. LET THE GAMES BEGIN WITH LV!!
