While we focus perpetually on the job market, let us first focus on ourselves. What is your perfect job? Do you have that job right now, or are you still looking?
Well, it's time to wake up and smell the coffee. The Internet provides a global marketplace, for any type of product or service to be sold. There is no reason that so many Americans should be struggling right now -- with all of our knowledge and skills, we have all the right tools to lead this economy into a new Expansion.
I believe it begs a bigger one:
What exactly is work?
I've scoured every industry for years, closely analyzing every job, whether fun, boring, easy, hard, long-term, short-term, every facet of every job. And here's what I've come up with.
First and foremost, it all starts with you! How do you feel about the work you are doing? Is it a) rewarding? b) provide enough income and life financing? c) does it HELP society in a solid way? d) can you fit this type of job into your life without disrupting your other daily routines?
Let's go through the list one by one. The job must be in some way rewarding. It must advance you, teach you, at least SOMETHING. And if the actual job isn't teaching you something, are there key coworkers or business systems that teach you things just from being on the job? If can answer yes to this question, go to the next section b just below. For everyone else, bear wit me a moment ;)
b) Do you make money? Is it enough? Think about your current and future financial needs. Does this job give you enough financing, or is it not cutting it?
c) Are you making the world a better place, or are you just wasting all of our time, including your own? Any type of activity which is designed for YOUR pleasure and not EVERYONE ELSE's is a piece of poop. The more you are here to help others, the better. Even if you don't work with people but with systems -- are the systems you are creating benefiting, or detracting from, the world at-large.
If you answered YES to all of these, "congratulations, you've won" a gift certificate to Wal-Mart, but no, seriously, I commend you for finding a great work-life balance. It's not easy for many of us to do! For everyone else, who answered NO -- hopefully not to every question ;) well, I'm here to help you the best that I can.
Do you feel confident about the daily work you are putting in? Do you feel like you have enough a solid, positive work routine every day, or are you lacking focus. If you are looking for a job, do you have a routine? How do you feel about it? A routine is necessary. It's a must. However, you may still have fun with your routine. You have to! If you don't, you're not in the right spirits to make the world a better place. To make money, have fun, find success, you must enjoy
your job or else you won't have the energy needed to excel at it!
So have fun, keep the routine going!
Listen Up! Remember me? Let's go old-school
