Today we are going to follow the Tom and Kate story to the bitter end. For many, myself included , it seemed like a Hollywood gone disney , magical princess story just as the "cinderella, prince charming" seemed to mirror Tom and Kate's whirlwind romance. It is to the credit of Tom and Kate that the divorce was managed professionally and that the attorney's acted quickly. It is better for the child, Suri and for the careers of Tom and Kate that the matter was private and moved at light speed. I couldn't help but notice that Kate was on the cover of my newest Elle digital mag today..and looking so "model thin". She is only 33 and her beauty is just starting to bloom!! Maybe the age factor played a difference in the marriage as time went on. Tom is a young and fit actor at 50 but you know, maybe Kate felt like his daughter and not his wife? Just taking a guess since i've never married an older man. You would think anyone would "love" that extra attention that a young wife would get from her experienced, older and wealthy husband. Ms. Berlin, in the article explaining the two very different backgrounds, states that Tom was more like a boy..than a man. He really had issues as a young men in his development and at age 12 when his father should have been a major positive influence, his mother was divorcing him. I doubt Tom had the "role model" of a fit father or the "security" that a young boy needs in his life at that age. Tom also confided that he was "bullied" at school.. and always felt like the "new kid" from school to school. The dyslexia label didnt help as labels usually do damage a child's confidence and especially male "prowess". For some reason, early in Tom's career, I remember some issues that Brooke Shields was having with Psychiatrists and how Tom was opposed to the psycho drugs many actresses and actors were taking. It was definitely part of the "hollywood" lifestyle. Tom always insisted there were natural ways to manage moods and was from what i could see "standing by Brooke" for the natural resolution rather than the man-made pharmaceutical control that the film industry may have been exerting on young professional actors and film stars. Maybe it was that Tom felt like a victim himself based on the "diagnosis" of dyslexia. Dyslexia became known as a learning disorder and a stigma was attached. This may have played a "demon" role in the end of his relationship with Kate. Only the two of them know.. At any rate, this once happy couple.. the hollywood poster couple for what everyone thought was a "perfect" marriage to last through all seasons of life, would bump , grind and sputter to a abrupt and shocking halt . Suri will manage this time of confusion with some setbacks i'm sure but at least the "focus" of Tom and Kate is on Suri. A long drawn out battle would have been the worst! At least the parties can move on.. I heard that Kate is literally getting zero from the "prenup" so i guess she went into the relationship with open eyes and a reality based frame of mind that the marriage would not benefit her in terms of Tom's big paycheck. There is also another piece of information that may have well been the "last straw" for Kate and that involved the "two" faiths problem in the family. Its something i have even briefed my own children on when choosing partners for marriage. (if and when). Marry an equal. Be equally-yoked as the bible says, meaning share common values and the same faith. The problem with scientology , toms religion and the catholic faith that was Katie's faith from upbringing. The two worlds may have collided because it is often that different religions of a couple may not at first be a problem , but when the education and training of the children comes into the circleand is priority for the first years of formal education, there would be no doubt shadows cast on the child about which set of "beleifs" or rituals to follow. Obviously Kate had something to say about Tom's preferred religion of Scientology where Kates catholic background played a part in the disention. There are some parents who "share" religions with a child..meaning both parents continue to "worship" in their own way or with their own "church" or "synagogue". This can't be done to easily where a child must form an identity and choose one religion. Suri would have been no exception, so i guess Kate won on this matter that does affect a childs security and education. We can all breathe easier knowing that the parents will do well to "cooperate" for Suri's best interest. For any of you that have been "remarried" and have blended families, we can all relate to Kate's relationship with Tom's adopted children. Sometimes there is just "friction" and even "bullying". I know my step-daughter, who was 5 years old at the time, at first rejected me and was fearful i would take her mom's place. After having a one -to-one chat, my step-daughter realized that I would never take that special role from her and I would always be a friend rather than a replacement for her own mother. Older children from a first or previous marriage sometimes form coallitions and like it or not, impose some "unkind" punishment on the step-mom or whatever. Im thinking of "parent trap" now.. where the twin girls (lindsey lohan) , really screwed it up for the new girlfriend as young daughters would naturally defend their own mother. There are so many dynamics in this Tom Kate saga that we just cant pinpoint but im sure those dynamics are the reason for the breakup. We wish the best to Kate in her new home in NYC and for Suri to find her "balance". In many ways, hollywood and film stars do not have conforming lifestyles and have career demands that do not embrace nuclear family values. That's the downside of the film industry. There are very few mom actresses that are "stay at home" moms..who would leave their careers and choose to sacrifice, when married to highly driven men who are also actors. Possibly they could "share" parenting in the early years but that is not the "usual" pattern . At the very least Suri will continue to have a close relationship with Tom and benefit from Kate's youth , religious background and creative parenting. How can you choose one parent over the other..?? For a child this would be torment and dysfunctional. I'm sure Suri will be able to enjoy "both" as they are committed to her well-being and child development and will be having visitation that is generous with her dad. Tom's fans have to remember that this is Tom's first child. His first biological child and i can remember him shopping for Suri when she was just born with a dreamy-eyed look that only new dads have for their little girls. we have to give dad some credit now. There's nothing like having your own child. Nothing compares to the event of your "childs" birth, so i see Tom as the lonely one in this divorce. Maybe Tom didn't see (divorce) it coming.. or was blindsided. Many of us could relate but I do see one quality about Kate and that is her willingness to raise her daughter with a religion that has been "safe" for her and wanting to pass those values to her daughter Suri, is not a crime. There are so many pressures on couples today, whether they are film stars, rock stars or any others of prominent status. Sometimes you just don't know if you can handle the pressures until you are actually facing them. There's no way you can know in advance, how you will do on the test.. its either pass or fail. While marriages that end are given a failure rating and the label of "failed marriage" is not a very kind description , parents must go on and rebuild their lives. We hope Tom and Kate and stay positive, for Suri's sake.
