Welcome back to jesse's succinct news blog. Todays topic is a top story! We know many of you may be on vacation or checking in to see the Tour de france standings daily with your favorite team and riders. Todays schedule is the time trial which can make or break a race for a leading contender. A matter of a nano second, literally can move a top rider or his team from a position of strength to a greater standing or visa versa. The test of human endurance is evidenced as these riders have had no rest day since the tour de france began at stage one!! The tour is not for the "faint of heart" you can well imagine. Todays blog will "feature" , Cadel Evans an aussie with a power packed punch of veteran experience and the defending of the "maillot juene" , winner of the 2011 tour de france! Lance brought huge respect to the sport with the usual cast of characters mixing it up and shaking it up! Let's say Ivan Basso from Italy, the american riders, still going strong i might add from Team Radioshack.. and some other big names in the race always challenging and never to be counted out. Its a tour that tests endurance and the will of every rider. What is the threshold of pain that these riders are willing to experience!! At what point will they break? These men devote their lives to "cycling". It is to their collective credit and effort that has made the "tour de france" the epic event it is every summer now..since it began. The dangerous moutain stages, the sprinters who break away with unbeleivable speed and strength, the challenges of the natural elements of weather and heat, the winding courses through the villages and the feeling of man and nature being one has prevailed in this sport. Though the high tech of the sport is visibly seen and the riders body becomes one with the "bike machine" they are riding at top speeds with top conditioning and with tech that measures every scientific aspect of their "energy", the sport is really continuing the "history" of a man's will and endurance against the odds. There is great renewed interest in cycling in america and we can thank Lance Armstrong for bringing the record numbers of enthusiasts and fans to the sport of cycling .His personal story of battling cancer and defeating his demons, his winning of the tour for 7 consecutive years with superhuman strength has only confirmed that he has a heart of a champion. His title should be written in stone, in the stars and forever untarnished. As lance goes forward to defend his honor and title and the masses of americans who love lance as i do, support his case. It is an american tragedy that someone who was a victim of cancer , must also be a "victim" of the scandalous and tabloid press to take his coveted "title and legend", to take his glory and leave him in the dust. Lance will battle back and win the public debate of his innocence. I know the riders of the tour stand with Lance , even Cadel Evans, who year after year gives consistent and amazing performance in the race. These legends, those winning the tour, those who have won in the past, who press their bodies to the limit, for the love of the challenge and test should be given honor, respect and our unquestioning admiration for many are called but few are "chosen" for this extreme sport!! Only a select few can rise above just to enter this formidable race of races!! It is the "mother" of all cycling races!! I give congratulations to all those veterans and new riders that have given all , invested all, sacrificed all to this race! For cadel evans, there is possibly another win waiting for him at the podium in Paris. for this disciplined rider who takes on all the hype and pressures, has proven he has a winning strategy He is a legend in the making and an exciting champ to watch. He has a magnetic personality for the sport who seems to take the pressures like a grain of salt. Cadel has assumed the mantle of leadership in this legendary race in the absence of Lance and believe me, filling the shoes of Lance Armstrong cannot be easy. He is media friendly but a seemingly grounded professional of the sport. The level of interest in the sport and all the thrills that a 7 time winner brings cannot be duplicated though..or can it be? I would say Cadel has emerged from the pack as an equal to Lance, with a heart of a champion. Congrats to Cadel as he "defends" his title from 2011. The aussie in me.. loves Cadel for his "savoir faire" of the sport.! Take a closer look at Cadel. He is the next legend for the tour 2012!
